JULY FEATURED ARTIST
Dan Stiles
Bold Poster Art
Join us an art reception for the artist
Friday, July 2nd from 6pm-9pm
Show runs Friday, July 2nd through Saturday, July 31st.
Portland-based graphic artist Dan Stiles brings samples of his limited edition collectable art and bold poster style
to Tilde. Stiles is especially well-known for his phenomenal music poster design work. His artwork for Death Cab for
Cutie, Sonic Youth, Wilco, The Decemberists, Feist, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Trey Anastasio, Arctic Monkeys, and many
others has been called “a visual extension of music”. His designs are dynamic, graphic, and work in tandem with the
artists’ music to convey a visual message. “Every job is different. I always try and make something that feels appropriate
to the music. The image and the sound should match. Sometimes I'm inspired by a lyric, other times it's the overall sound
that drives the design.”
“Dan Stiles is something of a tour-de-force in music circles, having worked with some of the best and brightest over the last
15 years; from Nike to The Arctic Monkeys, to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Perhaps there is something about the US West Coast – living
up in Oregon – that gives him his edge. It’s not just that his clients are cool, or that his work has featured in so many
trendy magazines – although this is all true. His design talent deserves special mention as a confluence of cool and clever;
more than just pretty.” —Watchlist Magazine

AUGUST FEATURED ARTIST
Rachael Donaldson
Terra
Mixed Media Paintings
Join us an art reception for the artist
Friday, August 6th from 6pm-9pm
Show runs Friday, August 6th through Tuesday, August 31st.
For several years Rachael has been working on the series titled, "Terra"- Latin for earth or land. Growing up in the Utah and Arizona, Rachael
was acutely aware of the impressive landscapes surrounding her. With the layers of geological time visible everywhere and the unrelenting forces
of nature that wear them away, this series reflects the deep visual influences that growing up in the southwest has had on her art.
Throughout the series she has focused on a process oriented exploration of repeated layering and removal of paint, attempting to convey the essence of those vast
desert vistas and surfaces - both natural and manmade - affected by the weathering forces of time and the elements.
Her persistent use of dots has been an intentional choice, utilized as a consistent compositional backdrop for her painting process and as a visual reference to horizon lines
in landscapes. The application of the dots, a meditative practice of obsessive repetition... is like getting a little lost in her work. Paint is
mixed in bulk, applied to boards in layers with the leftover paint used as a base for the next piece. Mixed from the original batch, the colors change subtly with each sequential piece, resulting in a subtle and cohesive development of surface and compostion. Finally the layers are carefully sanded away, the finished work coming up through the layers, discovered like a precious rock found in the dirt.
Rachael Donaldson grew up surrounded by the magnificent landscapes of the southwest. After completing her second year of college in Prescott, AZ,
she moved north to Washington state where she finished her degree. Graduating from The Evergreen State College with a BFA, she majored in studio
painting and installation art. Currently she divides her time as a jeweler, painter and on line entrepreneur, selling vintage items in her online
boutique. Her most recent endeavor is joining the creative designers at Haunt, a new hybrid studio / boutique in Portland where she will combine
both her jewelry and vintage in a real store. |

SEPTEMBER FEATURED ARTIST
Lisa Kaser
Mixed Media & Prints
Join us an art reception for the artist
Friday, Sept. 3rd from 6pm-9pm
Show runs Friday, September 3rd through Tuesday, September 28th.
Lisa's preferred mediums are watercolor, graphite and ink which she combines with her collaged characters that she takes directly from her sketch books.
For this show the artist has put together a selection of framed originals and some of her matted and framed reproductions that she prints in her home studio.
All reproductions are giclee prints on fine art papers using archival inks. Each print is hand signed and titled by the artist.
For the past twenty-five years Lisa has had the good fortune of exhibiting her work in national and international venues.
She has been a member of Blackfish Gallery and started Beet Gallery in 2003. In 2008 she was the only American fiction-illustrator selected to participate
in the Illustrator's Exhibit in Bologna, Italy and subsequently received her first children's book project, The Three Little Pigs, that was published this
year in Seoul, Korea. In 2009 she was invited to submit work for the 200 Best Illustrator's Worldwide, by the Austrian publication, Lürzer's Archive.
Felt making, hand-sewing with textiles in two and three dimensional form, carving, mixed-media fabrication and narrative illustration has been my focus and development
since graduating from university. Exploring humor, relationship, character creation and absurdity of the human condition are prevailing elements in my work.
